Sorry this is late today! I had a lot going on this week and didn’t have a lot of time to sit down and write. I’ll just get right into it…
Episode 23: Echoes of the Past
Dust coated my mouth as I urged my motorcycle up the long and winding dirt road through the dense forest. Signs dotted the route, warning travelers that this was a private road with no gasoline, no mini marts, no liquor, no camping supplies. My headlight illuminated the darkening path, orange, red and yellow painting the sky that peeked through the trees.
After almost an hour of rugged terrain, the road ended at an impressive brick and steel gate. Cameras pointed at me from two angles, mounted on the large pillars holding the gate, and one small camera at the intercom. I squinted at the spotlights trained on the only point of entry to the property.
“What the hell do you want?” the voice ground through the speaker. “This is private property.”
I killed the engine on my bike and took off my helmet. “Hello to you, too, you crotchety old bastard.” I smirked into the camera.
“Well, shit.”
The gate shifted and swung wide on oiled hinges, hardly making a sound. I shoved my helmet back onto my head, restarted the bike, and drove onto the property.
