As I announced on Tuesday, the first TEN episodes of any Kindle Vella serial are FREE! So if you aren’t a paid subscriber here on Substack, I encourage you to check out what you might have been missing over at Kindle Vella. Just CLICK HERE to start reading Crescent Alliance.

Paid subscribers here on Substack get to contribute to the story through comments and polls. Please consider becoming a subscriber so you can have a chance to direct the episodes AND get the complete collection in eBook format when I finish each season. It’s only $5 per month OR $45 per year.

PLEASE NOTE: I’m confusing the hell out of myself with the number sequencing of the episodes on Substack versus the episodes on Vella. Vella doesn’t allow a “Prologue” episode, so the prologue here on Substack (parts 1 & 2) had to become Episode 1 on Vella. Which means all the episodes on Substack were one number behind. GAH!

As such, I have renamed ALLLL the episodes on Substack to match the episodes on Kindle Vella, staring with this week. So don’t worry! You didn’t miss Episode 18! It’s just a re-titling. Sorry if I’ve created any confusion other than my own!

Episode 19: Beyond the Veil

I stood in shock that the shadow angel, who had—moments before—imprisoned us in glass cages, was now down on one knee before me, his head bowed and his folded wings trembling. This display of submission was baffling enough to distract me from the betrayal of the two men I thought I could trust. “What do you mean ‘the Voice of the Empyrean.’?” I asked.

“You possess the Voice of the Empyrean.” Tenebris lifted his silver eyes filled with confusion. “You know that can only mean one thing.”

“No. You’re wrong.” I stepped back, staggering from the implications.

“What is he talking about?” Dean inched closer to me.

“But…” Tenebris’s eyebrows rose. “How could you not know?”
