Episode 10: Falling From Grace

The last time I was on a plane, I hurled my crackers and ginger ale into a doggie bag.

I was in my teens, but I looked like I was in second grade. Precocious was a common description for my older than normal personality for one so young. My father took me to Hawaii for vacation. It was probably one of the last times I felt like a somewhat normal person, just a daughter and her father on holiday.

That’s where we met the first hybrid-angel I had ever encountered other than the person I saw in the mirror daily. His name was Brutus, if you could believe it. A chosen name, of course. Only a cruel bastard would name their kid after a Popeye cartoon character. That’s when I learned that all hybrids needed fake names to hide their angelic names. Someone’s angelic name could be used as a weapon against them, and we had to protect it with our lives.

I didn’t know my angelic name. Brutus thought that was for the best.
